What is Hour of Code?
Hour of Code is a global movement to promote coding and programming in schools across the world during Computer Science Week (December 4-10). A small investment of one hour is all that is necessary to become part of this movement in which students can choose from a variety of guided activities to learn the basics of coding.
Hour of Code requires no prior experience and activities can be found for any age level on the Hour of Code website. To participate, you can register your hour of code event on their website to put your classroom on the map!

Why you and your students should be a part of the Hour of Code Movement
Did you know that 65% of the jobs our primary school students will have after they graduate don't even exist yet? The only constant in our world is change and technology is only becoming more prevalent in all aspects of the work force: medicine, education, communication, engineering, arts and entertainment, and so much more.
Computer science isn't a regular part of our curriculum, but we can provide students with a glimpse of the way this field works and inspire them to create and solve problems using technology. See the video below for more information about the importance of computer science.

Introducing Hour of Code to your students
Get your students excited about the Hour of Code by showing a video explanation of the hour of code. Show them the map of the schools around the world that are participating in this movement.
This page on the Hour of Code website has several different videos for you to choose from to introduce the activity to your students (you can also use the video on this page). On that same page you can print any of the posters to display in your room to promote computer science.
